Our Story

Pathways was created in 2010 by Adams 12 Five Star Schools as a pilot program with a goal to support 25 students who had left our schools without graduating from high school. By the end of the 2010-2011 school year, over 250 students were served and 50 students earned their high school diplomas. In 2011-2012, Pathways moved into our new facility, the Futures Center, and expanded programming to include both a Traditional Diploma and a Competency-Based Diploma. Over 430 students were served in the 2011-2012 school year and 101 students earned their diplomas.  We now work with 500+ students each school year and more than 300 students graduated from Pathways last year.

We are excited this year to continue our work with students seeking an alternative path to a high school diploma.

Our Model

Pathways has a blended learning model. Students are provided opportunities to learn through digital content and through direct and one-on-one instruction with a highly qualified content teacher. We use several curricula to help support students including Edgenuity and WorkKeys. Our instructors design their courses based on Adams 12 Five Star Schools' Units of Study and Colorado State Content Standards.

To effectively meet students' needs, there are several levels of support. Students will work with teachers in groups for content instruction, individually for additional support or specific skill development, and in our lab environment. In addition, we have three guidance counselors, three family outreach liaisons, two learning specialists, and a school psychologist.

Individualizing Education

Our students are our number one customer. We review their transcripts, learn about their needs and future plans, and develop a graduation plan and a schedule that is designed for them to achieve their goals. Our curricula is prescriptive; it is designed to test their knowledge of the subject and assigns only the content that they have not yet mastered. This allows students to work at their own pace. The support of our staff and our prescriptive curricula often help students learn material faster than they would in a traditional environment.

"Pathways was a good fit for me. I could work at my own pace and work with teachers one-on-one when I needed it. i could finish my courses from or from the lab" - Nic Malec, Graduate
